Flames Short Against Edmonton
The Calgary Flames did something Friday night that no other team in NHL history had done, dress just 15 skaters and 2 goalies.
NHL rules state that a team can dress up to 18 skaters and two goalies thus Calgary was 3 men shy of the maximum allowed.
Because of salary cap issues and injuries that have cropped up and put half the defensive corps on the IR the Calgary Flames cannot add any more players to their pro roster without violating the league salary cap of $56.7 million dollars.
Saturday night, the Flames had to become the team in NHL history to dress 15 skaters as well.
Why do players who are injured effect the cap anyways? Those who are injured are not impacting the game positively for their teams and as such their cap space should be freed up while injured to allow for a replacement to take their place….thereby a team like, oh I don’t know…Calgary wouldn’t have to dress under league maximum.
Either way the Flames sent the Oilers home and off to their summer vacation in embarrassing 4-1 fashion.
